When you visit Colombia to talk and learn about architecture, we tell you that you can find from Pre-Columbian, Colonial, Republican, Modern and Contemporary Architecture.
The destinations we recommend you to make the tour are:
Bogotá: During the visit you can make the tour starting with the historic center where the city was born with its Colonial and Republican architecture where the facades still give us an idea of the way of life of its inhabitants in each era and development of the city, buildings with Neoclassical influence, Tudor style houses and what was considered the best neighborhood of the city in 1935. The use of brick for the construction of buildings and places of interest designed by Rogelio Salmona, the most important architect of the twentieth century in Colombia.
Cartagena: Since the colonization of South America, the city of Cartagena de Indias has had great relevance for its history and prominence, and now for keeping through time its unique architecture of the historic center, with restored houses starting with the convents and that is why in 1984 received the recognition of UNESCO as a Historical Heritage destination. During the trip you will find one of the most extensive fortresses designed by the Spaniards, houses, civil buildings, churches and its squares subjected to restorations showing its conservation over the years.
Coffee Zone: The coffee axis as it is also known covers different territories among them the south of the department of Antioquia, Caldas, Quindío, Risaralda, the north of the Cauda Valley and Tolima. The architecture over the years shows the pre-Hispanic heritage, the construction walls of the houses are made of bahareque of guadua as construction material, there are large extensions of guadua trees in the territories, the roofs are made of clay tile, the woodwork stands out in the doors, windows and balconies which are the most photographed during the visit to the region.
Medellín: Because of the great changes that the city had from being one of the cities that could not be visited in the 90's to being a city with greater public infrastructure and social architecture of the country, is the only city in Colombia with Metro and incentive the creation of the Metrocable to reach neighborhoods where people had to walk for hours to get to their homes, as well as escalators. For the above was one of the most important points to win the award in 2013 as the Most Innovative City in the world.
Mompox: The Spanish influence is vital in the architecture of a city that stood still in time, it resembles Andalusia Spain, most of the houses located in the historic center are one-story, and because of its location and climatic conditions are high with large windows in wrought iron, structure with courtyards in the center and the well for water supply, some with large trees in the center to ventilate and cool the houses. Its preservation is due to its history of passing in the colony to be one of the most important cities of the Kingdom of Granada to abandonment by the change of the Magdalena River. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
