Valledupar
The city of Valledupar, also known as Santos Reyes de Valle de Upar, is the capital of the department of Cesar. It is one of the musical, cultural and folkloric epicenters of the country and which is the cradle of the musical genre known nationally and internationally as Vallenato, which is very popular and symbol of Colombian music.
Among the attractions which have been part of inspiration for vallenato singers is the Cesar River, Badillo River and Guatapuri River and a few hours is Nabusimake settlement of the Arhuaca Indigenous Community, located in the municipality of Pueblo Bello at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level in the Sierra Nevada.
Valledupar is home to eight living indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá, which gives it a unique cultural richness.
What to visit
The historic center of Valledupar has beautiful old colonial buildings dating from the sixteenth century. The Alfonso Lopez Pumarejo square, the church of the conception and the church of the Rosary, which is the cathedral of the city.
The Guatapurí River is located in the Guatapurí River, with the Hurtado bridge, in the linear park is the Pueblito Vallenato where you can learn about the ancestral customs.
The Badillo River natural pool is located 40 minutes away on the road that leads to the town of Atánquez.

In the squares of the capital of Vallenato you can find a parranda vallenata, which is a social gathering around a vallenato group formed by a cajero, a guacharaquero and an accordion player that performs traditional songs alluding to the landscape, the countryside and women.
